Last  Saturday we opened our doors for the first time to the EAT Youth Theatre Company, run by Theatre Box Performing Arts Academy.

There was plenty of talent on display from our enthusiastic young actors –  breaking the ice before jumping straight into working on some duologues. Group leader Jade encouraged everyone to think about their characters, running some fun exercises to help them dig a little deeper. Improvisation took some people out of their comfort zones but they said they had liked having to push themselves a little.

Everybody then took to the stage to perform their short scenes – it’s only week one but the atmosphere was really supportive with lots of happy faces and blossoming friendships.

At the end of the session Jade talked a bit about the exciting plans that she has for the Youth Company. They’ll be working towards a full production to be staged in April next year.

Whether the young people have aspirations towards a career in theatre or just want a fun hobby that will help build confidence and skills that will be helpful whatever they decide to do in life, this is going to be a fantastic opportunity for them.

We finished the session with everybody recording what they want to get out of the Youth Company. I’m already looking forward to checking back in a year to see how far they’ve all come.
