We’ve heard a little about the play and the leading characters from our Rosencrantz and Guildenstern cast. Ros and Guil (their rapper names?) are a classic comic double act – bickering and bantering with wit and wordplay worthy of the great Laurel and Hardy!

So, who are their comedy heroes? We asked The Player (Play-Z?) as well so read on and see if your favourite double-act made the cut!

On their favourite comedy double acts:

Ben (Rosencrantz): Despite being slightly before my time, I have always enjoyed the television staples; The 2 Ronnies for their numerous sketches, stories and chemistry. From a more modern standpoint it would have to be Mitchell and Webb who bring their unique mix of dark, awkward and witty humour to the screen.

Sam (Guildenstern): A hard decision as I like a few. I’m very fond of Laurel & Hardy and the Two Ronnies, but I’d say my top duo would have to be Morecambe & Wise.

Martin (The Player): Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. French and Saunders. Fry and Laurie. They all combine brilliantly silly physical comedy with clever word play. Just like Tom Stoppard, in fact.

And who would they like to team up with in a comic duo?

Ben: Nick Mohammed is someone I’d love to work with as a comedy duo; although his wit, intellectual pedantry and absurdist comedy would likely outshine anything I could produce!

Sam: Robin Williams is someone I think I’d love to double act alongside. I feel like I’m his total opposite in that I’m terrible with improv. So it’d either work as a balancing act or I’d hopefully be able to learn from him on the fly!

Martin: Victoria Wood. (Ed: Enough said – perfect choice).
