The Vicar of Dibley By Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter Directed by Suzanne Harris 28th March – 4th April 2026 About the Play: This stage version is based on three very successful television series written by Richard Curtis who is also famous for Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’s Diary and War Horse. The action is set in the 1990s in the sleepy village of Dibley, which is populated by parishioners of the maddest variety. The Dibley Parish Council gathers in the wake of Reverend Pottle’s death and awaits the arrival of their new Vicar, Geraldine Granger. The unlikely relationships that emerge are as heart-warming as they are entertaining, also as relatable as they are outrageously surprising and funny. The Vicar of Dibley was first aired on television in 1994 following the changes in 1993 when The Church of England first permitted the ordination of women.
