Thank you to everybody who completed our short survey about the future of the Edward Alderton Theatre. The Interim Management Committee wanted to make sure that when it comes to planning for the future, we’re listening to our members, supporters and potential future supporters in the local community.

We received 167 responses, split between members who had been sent the survey directly and people who had seen it on our social media or via third parties. It was interesting and encouraging to see that there was not much difference in opinion between the two groups.

Everybody wanted to see the EAT continue as a venue for amateur theatre (phew!). But, you are open to using our little theatre for other purposes, alongside the current set-up of six in-house productions each year/season.

The most popular suggestions were:

• Music nights (61% of members, 63% of non members)
• Youth theatre (54% of members, 53% of non members)
• Comedy events (50% of members, 55% of non members)
• Visiting theatre productions (48% of members, 57% of non members)

We’re taking all of this on board. We’ve just announced our exciting new Youth Theatre Company, in partnership with Theatre Box. And we are looking at welcoming some guest productions alongside our 2025-26 season (more information very soon).

The feedback also made it clear that we need to do more to raise the profile of the theatre in the local area (on it!), and that people are looking forward to a varied season of productions.  We hope that our plans for the coming year include plenty of crowd pleasers!

As we start to plan for 2026-27 (Already? Seriously?), we’d love to hear from our members and supporters, whether you have an idea for a production or you’d like to organise a music or comedy night alongside all the other great entertainment that the EAT has to offer!
