This is the story of Freddie Mills, light heavyweight champion of the world.
Son of a rag-and-bone man, started his working life as a milk boy aged 14.
Joined the fairground as a booth boxer.
A war hero in the RAF.
The highs, the lows, the loves, the helter-skelter lifestyle of Freddie Mills - fighter.
The good years from 1938 to 1948...

Principle Characters
Freddie Mills An athletic, 5'10"/6' dark-haired, ruggedly good-looking man of 20-25. Happy go lucky. Good physique. Baritone. Able to move. Christine Broadribb A tall, slim woman of 20-25. Blonde, attractive, educated and confident. Daughter of Ted Broadribb. Able to move. Mezzo/soprano. Favours 20-25. An unsuccessful but loveable rogue. Good mover, able to sing. A sense of comic timing. Ted Broadribb A stocky man of 5'7"/5'9" with white hair. A fit 55-65. Ex-professional boxer and trainer, soft-spoken and gentle demeanour. Able to sing and move. Ma Basham A voluptuous 5'/5'3" woman with reddish fair hair. 40-50. A worn northern look, possibly Northern accent. Outgoing, businesslike but gentle. Mezzo. Edna A big-busted blonde. Cockney tart, 18-25, warm-hearted. Mezzo/soprano, able to move

Sticky Old ragged tramp, long straggly hair, dirty. 40-70. Strong comedy. Gangster Male, 30-70. Sings, moves, comedy timing needed. RAF Squadron Leader Typical RAF type, 25-35. Also boxer. Milk Inspector Small, miserable, mustachioed. 40-60. Men of all heights and size for the boxers, 16 years upwards. Various assorted fairground characters. Fit, all ages (4-8 male, 4-8 female). Dancers, acrobats, jugglers. All circus skills welcome. All shapes and sizes. Able to sing and move. The director hopes to run workshops for circus skills and hat and cane tricks from March through to October.
