Agatha Christie story adapted by Frank Vosper set I the late 1930’s early 1940’s
Synopsis
Act 1 Sc 1 & 2: set in Bayswater flat shared by longtime friends Cecily and Mavis. They have won £20,000 on a sweepstake and are packing to move aided by Auntie Loo Loo. Cecily due to meet her fiancé Nigel who she has not seen for 3 years as he has been working abroad. She is uncertain of her feelings and wants to postpone the wedding. A suave American, Bruce calls to view the flat and Cecily is smitten against the advice of Mavis and Antie Loo Loo.
Act 2 Sc 1: 6 weeks later is set in a quaint country cottage. Bruce and Cecily are now married. Hodgeson the gardener and Ethel his niece work for them. Bruce is having difficulty accessing his finances.
Sc 2: 6 months later Bruce appears sickly and is reclusive. Against his wishes Dr Gribble visits to consult. He advises Cecily the cottage was for sale at £950, she paid £1,500 with Bruce handling the finances for her. Hodgson then finds a sack of empty bottles buried in the garden that no-one knows about.
Mavis and Nigel visit but are not received by Bruce it is now clear he married Cecily for her money.
As usual Agatha Christie adds a twist in the final pages!

The Edward Alderton Theatre is a non-professional performance venue in Bexleyheath, Kent, founded in 1976. It has a raked auditorium seating 74, a proscenium stage, a fully licensed bar, a deaf loop, toilets and free onsite parking. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the premises. Performances commence at 8pm. Social evenings are held every Wednesday from 9pm, except during show weeks. Non-members welcome.
